Jammu: In a tragic incident, at least 12 people died and over a dozen were injured in a stampede at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir triggered by a heavy rush of devotees, officials said on Saturday.
Following L-G Manoj Sinha ordered an inquiry as a stampede occurred at around 2.30 am near Gate 3 outside the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine.
Condolences poured in from all quarters and Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon,” Modi tweeted.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also condolences the catastrophic incident and said, “Deeply saddened by the news of loss of lives at Mata Vishno Devi Mandir due to stampede. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Hoping and praying for their speedy recovery.”
