Chandigarh: Punjab government has finally approached the Supreme Court opposing the move of centre government of extending the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) up to 50km inside the international border.
The apex court has asked the union government to appear before the court within 28 days after receiving the copy of the order.
“A suit in this court against you praying for a decree in terms of prayers made in the plaint, alongwith application for stay. You hereby required to cause an appearance to be entered for you in registry of the court within 28 days from service of the notice,” the order read.
The order added that in default of your causing an appearance to be so entered, the suit will be liable to be heard and determined in your absence.
Earlier, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha last month had passed a resolution against the Union government’s notification that extended the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) up to 50km inside the international border. The opposition parties have been questioning the delay by the Congress government in moving the Supreme Court against the order.
