Ottawa: Lacrosse player-turned-coach and five other young adults were reported missing on Saturday, but all of them are feared dead in a single vehicle crash in Barrie, Ontario.
At around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, Barrie Police arrived at the scene after receiving information about the accident in the area of McKay Road and County Road 27.
Barrie Police Services (BPS) Communications Coordinator Janet Mays said four boys and two girls in their 20s were reported missing in the vehicle. Very little information has been released regarding the accident.
The City of Barrie confirmed on Sunday afternoon that the site where the accident occurred was part of a construction project and that the corridor had been closed for a long time.
Police have not released the names of the dead, but one of them is said to have been identified as local Lacrosse player and coach Luke West. On Sunday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford took to social media to express his condolences to the families of the deceased. The matter is being investigated.
