75th Independence Day: 220-feet-long tricolour over Hudson, billboard at Times Square in NY

New York: A 220-feet-long ‘fly-past’ Tricolour made of khadi over the Hudson River and a huge billboard display at Times Square will be the centre of attraction at the 75th Independence Day celebrations of India in the US state of New York.

The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) has announced a slew of special events this year as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ being celebrated to mark 75 years of India’s Independence.

The events will begin with the hoisting of the Indian flag made of khadi at Times Square on August 15. At the same time, New York’s famous Empire State Building will be decorated with tricolor-colored lights.

Indian community organisations will also display a huge ‘India Day Parade’ billboard at Times Square on August 15 at its grand ceremony to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the FIA said.

According to the FIA, a 220-foot-long ‘fly-past’ of the 220-foot-long tricolour made of khadi will also be held over the Hudson River in New York on August 15.

The organisation claimed that this will be the first-of-its-kind special ‘fly-past’ of the “largest tricolour” made of khadi on the Hudson river, which will be witnessed by thousands of people.
