Haryana petrol pumps begin 24-hour-long strike

Chandigarh: Seeking reduction in value added tax on petrol and diesel, fuel pump owners in Haryana went on a 24-hour strike today.

As many as 3,700 petrol pumps began the strike at 6 am on Monday, and will continue till 6 am on Tuesday, said Ashok Jain, treasurer of All Haryana Petroleum Dealers Association.

The pumps, however, continue to give fuel to emergency vehicle like ambulances across the state.

The Congress-led government in Punjab had reduced VAT on petrol and diesel, making them cheaper by Rs 10 and Rs 5 per litre respectively and fuel pump owners went on strike while seeking reduction in value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel on par with Punjab.
