Chandigarh: Hours before the announcement of the Punjab assembly election date, VK Bhawra has been appointed as the new DGP of Punjab.
Chief Minister Charanjit Channi has approved his appointment on Saturday. Bhawra takes over from acting DGP Sidharth Chattopadhyaya, who is facing scrutiny following the security breach during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Punjab visit on January 5
The UPSC has shortlisted the names of former DGP Dinkar Gupta, Special DGP (Investigation) Lokpal, Punjab VK Bhawra, both 1987-batch, and Prabodh Kumar of 1988-batch. However, name of incumbent DGP Chattopadhyaya a 1986-batch IPS officer who is due to retire on March 31, does not figure in the panel.
