30% women in India subjected to physical, sexual violence; in 80% cases husband is perpetrator: Govt survey

New Delhi: National Family Health Survey-5 revealed that one-third of women in the court faced physical or sexual violence.

The report state that domestic violence has declined from 31.2% to 29.3% against women, however, age groups between 18 and 49 in the country experienced physical assault from the age of 15.

Shockingly, only about 14% of women brought up the issue before authorities who have experienced physical or sexual violence.

The survey shed light that 32% of married women between 18-49 years experienced physical, sexual, violence. In over 80% cases of violence against women, the accused is the husband, the survey revealed.

Meanwhile, the highest cases of violence against women reported in Karnataka at 48%, followed by Bihar, Telangana, Manipur and Tamil Nadu. Likewise, Lakshawdeep has the recorded least domestic violence at 2.1%.
