Washington: In a report released by the UN accused China authorities for atrocities on Uighurs and other minorities in the Xinjiang region of China. It has been termed as a heinous crime against humanity. This UN report was awaited for a long time, which has finally been released in Geneva.

The report was made public just before the end of UN Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet’s four-year term. While releasing this report, he said that it is necessary to bring it in front of the people. Let us tell you that an attempt was being made from China to put pressure on this report.

What is in the UN report?

In this report released by the UN, there is a mention of atrocities on Uighurs and other Muslim communities. China is accused of holding about one million Uighur Muslims hostage in the Xinjiang region for many years. The UN report says that China has fiercely violated human rights and fundamental rights. Let us tell you that Michelle Bachelet himself had visited the Xinjiang region of China. After which work was started on this complete report.

This report claimed that there was sexual and gender-based violence against the Muslim community in China. People of this community were kept in custody and subjected to various kinds of torture and forced sterilization was also done. The UN has called it an international crime. Investigators say they have found “credible evidence” of atrocities that amount to “crimes against humanity”.

China gave this argument

However, there is a continuous protest from China on this report. China had earlier appealed to stop this report, while now after the release of the report, China has alleged that it is a conspiracy to damage its reputation, which includes Western countries. In fact, China has argued on these allegations that Uighurs are targeting terrorists present among minorities. Different strategies are made for this.
