New Delhi: Tennis legend Roger Federer has announced his retirement from the game. According to the information received, he will retire from sports after the Laver Cup. He has 20 Grand Slam titles to his name.

He has announced about his retirement through a post on Twitter. Federer won his first Grand Slam in 2003 when he won the Wimbledon title. He has since won 6 Australian Open, 1 French Open, 8 Wimbledon and 5 US Open titles. Federer is third in terms of the total number of Grand Slam titles won behind his main rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

“For my tennis family and beyond, the biggest of the gifts tennis has given me over the years, undoubtedly everyone I’ve met during this time,” Federer wrote. Guys, most of my competitors and all the fans who give to the game this is my life. Today I want to share some news with all of you. As many of you know, how the last three years have been for me. I have faced challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries.”

“It’s difficult to get back to full form now, but I also know my body. I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches in 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than ever before. Next week’s Laver Cup in London will be my last ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but not at the Grand,” he said.
