Vigilance names Capt Sandeep Sandhu in corruption case

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has named Captain Sandeep Sandhu, secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) and former political secretary to former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, in a corruption case. Sources in the Vigilance said that the alleged involvement of this Congress leader in the scam of installing lights in the villages of Dakha assembly constituency has come to light. So far, six persons have been named and four arrested in the case registered by the Vigilance on September 27. Harpreet Singh and Captain Sandeep Singh Sandhu have not been arrested at the moment.

This is a major action taken by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau after two former Congress ministers Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and Bharat Bhushan Ashu. Captain Sandeep Sandhu is an important leader of the Congress and has also been in charge of the state office of the Congress for the last several years. Sandhu was one of the close aides of Captain Amarinder Singh. As soon as the Congress government came to power, he was appointed as the political secretary and the work was allotted in the Chief Minister’s Office itself.

He had even contested the Dakha by-election and Captain Amarinder Singh was in charge of the election campaign himself. Vigilance claimed that arrested BDPO Satwinder Singh Kang has disclosed that Sandeep Sandhu had made a meeting with the concerned contractor and other persons to install lights in the streets of the villages of Sidhwan Bet area. During the investigation of the Vigilance, it has also come to light that grants worth crores of rupees were distributed in Dakha constituency till the by-election of Dakha constituency and subsequent general elections of 2022 and the facts of major scam in most of the grants have come to light. The matter of sports kits distributed in this constituency is being investigated separately by the Vigilance.

In this case too, the fact of a major scam is primarily in the hands of the Vigilance. Sandeep Sandhu’s name also crops up among the Congress leaders whose involvement is being probed in the scam that took place during the Congress rule in the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
