Federal government spent $400K on hotels to attend Queen Elizabeth’s funeral

Ottawa: During Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, the Canadian government had spent close to $400K to stay in hotel rooms. This included a suite worth $6,000.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Governor General Mary Simon, former Prime Ministers Kim Campbell, Jean Chrétien, Paul Martin, Stephen Harper and Olympian Mark Tuxbury, besides actress Sandra Oh, were part of the Canadian delegation.

The Canadian government has not disclosed who stayed in the $6,000 exclusive Corinthia London hotel. According to the hotel’s website, the occupants of this suite also get to see the butler service and the river Thames. This suite was used for five nights.

From September 11 to 20, the Canadian government spent $356,981.70 to stay at the Corinthia London. In order to accommodate the other delegates, the federal government booked rooms at the Hampton Hotel in Hilton, near London’s Stansted Airport, at a cost of $40,861.11. It is located an hour’s drive from central London.

According to the information, the federal government spent 313,614.00 British pounds (397,842·81 Canadian dollars) for the stay of the Canadian delegation.
