Chandigarh: After the violent incident outside Ajnala police station in Amritsar, Punjab Police have started a crackdown against Amritpal Singh, the head of the waris Punjab outfit. Police have cancelled arms licences of nine associates of Amritpal Singh.
The punjab police is taking this action against 10 of its supporters, but since the licence of one of its associates is made from Jammu and Kashmir, the concerned state has been written for it, a senior official said on condition of anonymity.
On the other hand, 9 licenses made in Punjab have been canceled. The Punjab Police is carrying out this entire process secretly so that violent incidents to maintain law and order situation.
The Punjab Police has completed action against 9 supporters of Amritpal Singh, but action can be taken after March 20. Actually, the Punjab government does not want to take any strict action till the G20 conference to be held in Amritsar.
A conference on education is being held from March 15 to 17 and on March 19-20 on the subject of labor.
According to the information received, action has been taken against 9 associates of Amritpal Singh including Harjeet Singh Amritsar, Baljinder Singh Amritsar, Ram Singh Brar Kotkapura, Gurmat Singh Moga, Avtar Singh Sangrur, Varinder Singh Tarn Taran, Harpreet Devgan Patiala, Amritpal Singh Tarn Taran and Gurbhej Singh Faridkot.
Talwinder Singh Tarn Taran’s licence has been sent to the concerned state for review as he is from Jammu and Kashmir.
Last month, supporters of Waris Punjab De outfit led by its chief Amritpal Singh had resorted to violence to rescue fellow Lovepreet Singh toofan from police station. They attacked the Ajnala police station and cops under the shield of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Six police officials were injured in the attack.
