Chandigarh: IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal and former Faridkot SSP Charanjit Sharma, named as accused in the Kotkapura firing case, surrendered here as per the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The high court then ordered the release of the two police officers on bail till the trial is over.
Umranangal and Charanjit Sharma filed a bond of Rs 5 lakh each in the court after which the court handed over the copies of the challan to these police officers.
Meanwhile, the DIG Amar Singh Chahal has also filed an anticipatory bail application in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Rajiv Kalra, expressing his desire to appear in the Kotkapura firing case.
The court, after hearing arguments today, adjourned the hearing of the case till March 29. Amar Singh Chahal was summoned by the area magistrate to appear before it in the Kotkapura firing case, but the probe team could not hand over the summons to him as his house was locked.
Therefore, the court had again issued summons to Amar Singh Chahal. Former Dgp of Punjab. Sumedh Saini has also been granted bail by the High Court in this case, but he has not yet appeared before the court. Judicial Magistrate Ajaypal Singh, after releasing Paramraj Singh Umranangal and Charanjit Sharma on bail, directed them to appear before the court again on April 12.
