HC stays ex-Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini’s arrest in all cases till February 2022

Chandigarh: In a big relief for former Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ruled that Saini’s involvement in multiple cases might be a political ploy ahead of the state assembly elections, there court put stay on Saini’s arrest till February 2022.

The order came as a major embarrassment for the Punjab government who had registered several cases against Saini and also arrested him in an embezzlement case recently.

The court has put stay on arrest in the all-ongoing investigations along with any likely to be registered cases.

Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan, in his 46-page judgement asserted he was conspicuous of the dare shown by the Punjab Police officials in trying to overreach the Court, which was also a circumstance to be considered about the nature and quality of investigation being conducted by the Punjab Police in the FIRs.
