AAP MLA Amit Rattan sent to Patiala jail till March 16 in bribery case

Bathinda: MLA Amit Rattan, arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from the husband of a sarpanch of Ghudda village in Bathinda rural, was today sent to Patiala jail till March 16 on judicial remand. Amit Ratan was arrested from Rajpura on the night of February 22.

Since the same day, he was in the custody of the Vigilance as he was on police remand. On this occasion, Amit Ratan said that he has full faith in the judiciary.

Vigilance DSP Kulwant Singh said that the interrogation which was to be conducted by them was done during the police remand, so no further police remand was sought.

On the other hand, MLA Rattan’s lawyer Harpinder Singh Sidhu said that the police could not make any recovery from the MLA during the remand. He claimed that when the MLA contested the election in 2017, he had given details of his assets as per the instructions of the Election Commission and also during the 2022 elections, according to which no new property was created by the MLA.

He further said that even during the investigation of the documents taken by the VB from the Chandigarh residence of the MLA, nothing was found by the VB nor from the residence in Patiala.

Replying to a question on sending Amit Rattan to Patiala jail instead of Bathinda, he said it was his request as there were well-known ‘A’ category gangsters in Bathinda jail, where the MLA’s life could have been in danger.

Earlier, in the same case, Risham Garg, a close aide of the MLA, was arrested on February 16 from Circuit House Bathinda and is now on judicial remand till March 10.
