Chandigarh: A 16-year-old boy, who was abducted from Kotbhai village in Gidderbaha sub-division on November 25, was allegedly murdered for not paying a ransom of Rs 30 lakh.
Harmandeep Singh’s family had received a few phone calls and two letters from the kidnappers asking them to give money or face dire consequences. However, the family reported the matter to the police the same day.
The police had launched an investigation, detained some persons, but still the kidnappers killed the boy. Sources said the boy was murdered around 10 days ago, but one of the suspects confessed to the matter to the police yesterday.
Muktsar SSP Opinderjit Singh Ghuman said, “The accused have confessed that they have killed the boy. The police are yet to retrieve the body. Five accused are currently in custody.”
