New Delhi: India’s T20 squad will undergo a major change in the next 24 months as senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin will eventually be dropped. Sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik seem to have played their last matches for India in the shortest format but the BCCI will leave it to Kohli and Rohit to decide on their T20 International future.
Rohit, who looked upset after the team’s humiliating defeat in the T20 World Cup semi-final, was consoled by head coach Rahul Dravid and then faced the media in the press conference.
The next T20 World Cup is still two years away and if those in the know of the matter are to be believed, a new team will be formed under the leadership of Hardik Pandya as he is a contender to captain for a long time. “The BCCI never asks anyone to retire. It’s a personal decision. But yes, with limited T20 matches in 2023, most seniors will focus on ODIs and Tests,” it said.
