Agnipath scheme is not arbitrary, rules Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed two appeals against the Central government’s Agneepath scheme for recruitment in the Army. The apex court said in the observation that the scheme is not arbitrary.

The Supreme Court said that public interest is more important than other considerations. At the same time, the court also said that candidates who have been selected in the defense recruitment process before the launch of the Agneepath scheme do not have the right to be appointed.

The apex court clarified that the candidates selected in the recruitment process prior to the introduction of the Agneepath scheme do not have the right to appointment.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has listed another petition related to the recruitment process in the Indian Air Force before the launch of the Agneepath scheme for hearing on April 17.
