NEW DELHI: In an apparent attempt to woo Sikh community just two days before the Punjab elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met a prominent Sikh personalities at his residence in New Delhi on Friday.
The BJP in alliance with Punjab Lok Congress of Captain Amarinder Singh and the Akali Dal faction headed by Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa is contesting the elections in Punjab.
PM met with a 31 Sikh delegations that includes Delhi Gurudwara Committee president Harmeet Singh Kalka, Padma Shri awardee Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, Mahant Karamjit Singh, Baba Joga Singh of Dera Baba Jang Singh and Sant Baba Mejor Singh Waa of Mukhi Dera Baba Tara Singh Waa in Amritsar and some others.
Modi said, “This morning, I met a wide range of people from the Sant Samaj and Sikh community. These are distinguished individuals who are at the forefront of popularising Sikh culture and serving society.”
I was humbled by the kind words from the distinguished members of the Sikh community on various efforts of the Central Government. I consider it my honour that the respected Sikh Gurus have taken Seva from me and their blessings have enabled me to work for society, he added.
