Akali leader shot dead in Punjab’s Batala

Chandigarh: The Akali leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Ghasitpur village in Sadar Batala police station late night.

The deceased has been identified as Ajitpal Singh, a resident of village Sheikhupur. His wife has also been a member of the block committee.

Ajitpal Singh, along with his friend Amritpal Singh, was returning to his village in a car last night when unidentified assailants intercepted his car and opened indiscriminate fire when he reached near Ghasitpur village, said Surinderpal Singh, in-charge of Sadar Batala police station.

Ajitpal Singh, who sustained serious injuries due to bullet injuries, was rushed to a private hospital in Amritsar, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Action is being taken on the basis of the statements of Amritpal Singh, the SHO said.
