Chandigarh: After staging a walkout from the assembly, Punjab’s Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa on Wednesday launched a scathing attack at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party Government in Punjab for providing distorted and misleading information relating to the operation that was initiated to nab the activists of ‘Waris Punjab De’ organisation.
Addressing the media persons outside the house, the LoP said that both the BJP-led Union Government and the AAP-led Punjab government had their own secret motives behind this operation. Both governments intended to distract the attention of the people from the current developments taking place at Punjab and national levels.
Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that it had been difficult for the BJP government in the centre to face the opposition after the Hindenburg reports on Adani. Bajwa also accused CM Bhagwant Mann of becoming a pawn in the hands of the BJP.
“The AAP government deliberately launched this operation in Shahkot, Jalandhar district. By declaring it a successful operation, CM Mann wanted to take advantage in the upcoming Jalandhar by-elections”, LoP added.
He said that Amritpal Singh could have been easily arrested from his village in the morning when he had only 35 to 40 people with him. Besides this Chief Minister has been facing a tough time after two back-to-back interviews of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi were telecasted. The people of Punjab wanted an answer from the CM on the same. Therefore he wanted to distract people’s attention.
“As a Jail Minister, Home Minister, and as a CM he must be held accountable for the interviews of Lawrence Bishnoi”, Bajwa added.
Bajwa said that it was a complete intelligence failure. Punjab Police has the strength of 80,000 personnel. In a joint operation with paramilitary forces, Punjab Police couldn’t arrest Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh.
“It is very shameful for the Punjab CM. Even the Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken a serious note of that”, LoP added.
The leader of the opposition said that CM intentionally chose March 18 as a date for this operation because he wanted to sabotage the death anniversary programme of famous Punjabi rapper and singer Sidhu Moosewala, which was on March 19.
“He (CM) became a flagbearer of the Punjabi language lately and passed an order relating to signboards in Punjab. After this operation, He (CM) addressed the people of Punjab in the Hindi language. Has he forgotten his own language now?”
