Brampton: Brampton City Council unanimously passed a resolution at a special counsel meeting yesterday after receiving complaints related to election signs on private property.
The resolution in this regard was moved by councillor Rowena Santos and endorsed by Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor. Through this resolution, the by-law regarding the city’s signs was amended.
After the passage of this resolution, posters related to elections will no longer be put up on any kind of private property, including residential and non-residential properties. These election posters can be put up only on windows or doors.
With the passage of this resolution, the signs on the posters will not be visible in place during the election season in the city. This will also reduce the cost of implementing the sign bye-law.
It is also worth mentioning here that there is no complete ban on election signs. Signboards can be put up to a limited extent with the consent of the owner of the property. Apart from this, suggestions were also sought in the resolution to increase the fines for those violating these rules.
