Ottawa: Canada is likely to await an investigation by the US Security Services into leaked documents from the Pentagon about operations being carried out by the United States and NATO in Ukraine. Therefore, Canada will not start an investigation at its own level, the National Security Expert said.
Over the weekend, U.S. officials briefed their partners and friends, including Canada, about the impact of the leak. “Canadian authorities want to understand the seriousness of this leak and also to find out how much information related to Canada has been leaked in these documents,” said Wesley Wark, senior fellow at the Center for International Governance Innovation.
These documents, posted online, are covered with the secret label and contain information about weapons and equipment sent to Ukraine. But at the same time, there are shortcomings in these documents, due to which their relevance is being questioned. Efforts are also being made to find out if they were tampered with.
In the leaked documents, Russian hackers have also claimed that they have successfully accessed Canada’s natural gas infrastructure. The Communications Security Establishment, Canada’s cyber spy agency, said in a statement that it could not comment on this at the moment.
