Ottawa: Canada is sending four combat ready Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Some soldiers of the Canadian Armed Forces will also be sent to Ukraine to teach Ukrainian soldiers how to operate these tanks.
The announcement was made by Defence Minister Anita Anand on Thursday in the presence of Chief of Defence Staff Wean Eyre. On this occasion, he also said that in addition to sending four Leopard 2 tanks, Canada can also send more tanks later.
The defence minister said the deliveries of the tanks will take place in the coming weeks, while trainers as well as spare parts and other ammunition will be dispatched in coordination with their partners. Training in this regard will be done in a third country.
Anand was on a visit to Ukraine to meet his counterpart last week. She said that these modern technology-equipped and safe vehicles strengthen the hands of soldiers on the battlefield.
With this, Ukraine will be able to liberate a large part of its territory from Russia and protect its people from Russian attacks.
