New Delhi: The family of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav seems to be in trouble. The CBI has filed a chargesheet against RJD chief Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi and 14 others in a land-for-job scam.

The CBI has named Lalu Yadav and the then GM as accused in the chargesheet. Also, other family members of Lalu Prasad Yadav have been kept under investigation.

Apart from Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, his daughter Misa Bharti and 13 others have been named as accused by the CBI.

The CBI had registered a preliminary enquiry on September 23, 2021, related to the alleged scam in the railways, which was converted into an FIR on May 18. The scam took place between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Prasad Yadav was the railway minister in the UPA government.

Land taken in exchange for job

It is alleged that during Lalu Yadav’s tenure as railway minister, there was a scam in railway recruitment and land was taken from applicants in exchange for jobs.

According to the agency, the candidates were allegedly appointed as substitutes to Group D posts within three days of railway authorities applying in undue haste and were later regularised when these persons themselves or their family members transferred their land.

What is the allegation against Lalu Prasad’s family?

The CBI alleged that the land was taken in the name of Rabri Devi and her two daughters. The central agency has alleged that about 1.05 lakh square feet of land in Patna was acquired by Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family members by paying cash to vendors.
