Chandigarh DSP slaps defamation notice on Sidhu for saying MLA makes ‘police wet their pants’

New Delhi: Chandigarh Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dilsher Chandel has slammed Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu for allegedly lauding an MLA who makes “police wet their pants”. The DSP has described the remark as “shameful” and “an insult to the force”.

At a political rally held in Kapurthala’s Sultanpur Lodhi on 19 December, Sidhu, while sharing the stage with Congress MLA Navtej Singh Cheema, purportedly said that the latter “could make a police officer wet his pants”, and suggested that party workers be like Navtej.

The video of the incident went viral on the social media, following this, DSP, posted a video and condemned Sidhu’s statement.

He said, “It’s very shameful that a senior leader insults police force that provides him protection. Without police, even a rickshaw puller won’t obey their instructions: Chandigarh DSP Dilsher S Chandel on Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu’s remarks against police.”

Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh also condemned the incident and wrote on his social media handle,” Sad to see our men in uniform being disrespected. 1700 Punjab Police personnel sacrificed their lives to bring the state out of the dark days and now they are being mocked by Punjab Congress leaders & above all their President. Shameful! A leader must give respect to earn respect. On the other hand Punjab Police India officials are being transferred every day at the whims & fancies of Indian National Congress – Punjab leaders. The HM should know, it not only breaks the morale of the force but it’s also a clear signal that Congress leaders have no confidence in our men in uniform, ” he said.

He further said that at the Indian Military Academy there is a famous quote by the former C-in-C FM Sir Philip Chetwode in 1932.

“The welfare and security of the men you command come next, your own ease and comfort come last always and every time.”

The Punjab govt should try and understand this,” Capt said.
