Chandigarh-Manali highway closed due to landslides in Himachal

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh-Manali highway was blocked due to landslides between Mandi and Kullu, four miles from Mandi bus stand in Himachal Pradesh. However, traffic was later restored. Police said construction work on a four lane road is underway in the area which led to the landslide incident. Himachal Pradesh has been witnessing heavy rain since morning with the onset of monsoon due to which there is a danger of landslides.

The met department has issued an alert advising tourists to postpone the yatra. Sarkaghat recorded the highest rainfall of 109 mm on the first day of the onset of monsoon today.

Apart from this, 105 mm of rain was received in Sinhuta, 96 in Dhaula Kuan of Sirmaur, 84 mm in Tihra in Sujanpur and 68 mm in Bharari in Hamirpur.

According to the Met department, the monsoon in the state has reached three-four days behind this time. Two years ago, monsoon reached the state on June 9. The department has predicted that the spell of rain will continue in the plains and low altitude areas in the state during the next three to four days.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has been predicted over Sirmaur, Solan, Shimla, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, Chamba and surrounding areas.
