Chandigarh: Ropar district administration has given a clean chit to chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi in an illegal mining probe in his Chamkaur Sahib constituency.

The inquiry was ordered by Governor Banwarilal Purohit after Aam Aadmi Party leaders had met him in January 24 and submitted a memorandum alleging CM’s direct involvement in the illegal mining in his constituency.

Inquiry officer and Ropar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sonali Giri submitted her report to the ADGP-cum-Enforcement Director, Mining and said that neither illegal mining was done at Jindapur village nor any complaint was found in records in this regard.

Earlier, Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, during a press conference on January 22, had alleged that Channi was patronising illegal mining.
