Chandigarh: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had campaigned fiercely for AAP candidate Satendra Singh in the by-election, including an election rally and road show.
He had appealed to the people to vote for AAP on issues like education, health, electricity and water etc. At the same time, Mann had claimed that people are looking towards political change with AAP. But the people of Adampur did not repose faith in AAP. The AAP candidate lost his deposit.
AAP convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was also scheduled to hold a roadshow in Adampur. But due to his busy schedule in Gujarat it was cancelled. However, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann continued to campaign for the Delhi model with full force in Haryana. Despite this, the people of Adampur did not give basis to any of his claims and promises.
As a result, Satendra Singh, who left the Congress and became a candidate from AAP, could get only 3420 votes and AAP became the lowest political party.
AAP not having a strong cadre in Haryana like Punjab and distance from Haryana after the party formed the government in Punjab were also a major reason for AAP’s defeat in Adampur by-election.
