CM Channi’s claims fall flat, no drop in sand prices

Chandigarh: All tall claims of the Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has fallen flat to curb the souring prices of sand, as sand is still being sold out at old rates of Rs 21 to Rs 24 per cubic feet in Faridkot district.

These rates are Rs 21 per cubic feet at Faridkot and Golewala, Rs 22 at Kotkapura and Panjgrain, Rs 23 at Jaito and Sadiq and Rs 24 per cubic feet at Bajakhana, according to a media report.

Punjab government had last month claimed to slash sand prices and fixing these at Rs 5.5 per cubic feet and big-sized publicity hoardings dotting every nook and corner in this regard.

Transporters said that they find no impact of the state government’s order and mafia is still active. Government is trying to befool the people by erecting big hoardings and billboards but on ground it is nothing.

Deputy Commissioner, Faridkot, Vimal Setia told media that Faridkot does not have any government-approved sand-mining site and all sand being sold was brought from adjoining districts. Due to this, sand rates in different towns of the district have been fixed between Rs 21.50 and Rs 23.52 per cubic feet including the transportation charges.
