Conservative MPs demand to start direct flights between Canada and Punjab

Ottawa: BRAD Vis, MP for Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon in B.C. and Conservative Critic for Small Business Recovery and Growth, along with his other Conservative colleagues, has been calling on airlines to start direct flights between Canada and Amritsar.

Last week, the governments of Canada and India signed an agreement to expand the Canada-India Air Transport Agreement.

Under this agreement, new rights have been given to the airlines. In exercise of these rights, airlines can start countless flights between the two countries by removing the pre-determined limit of 35 flights a week.

“As a Conservative MP, it is my mission to empower the people and end red tape. I am grateful to all of them for the 14,000 Canadians to sign a petition submitted by me to start direct flights between Canada and Amritsar,” Vis said.

He also said that now it is up to the airlines to decide what they decide. In addition to MP Vis, Conservative Deputy Leader Tim Uppal, Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance Jasraj Hallan, Shadow Minister for Transport Mark Strahl have also asked Air Canada and Air India to start direct flights between Canada and India as well as Canada and Punjab keeping in view the market demand.
