Toronto: Correctional officers at Springhill Institution, a medium security federal institution, intercepted inmates who were in possession of contraband and unauthorized items, officials said in a statement.
This seizure is the result of the combined efforts of correctional officers and security intelligence officers. The contraband and unauthorized items seized include one cell phone, two USB charging cables, two SIM cards, one SD card, 18.68 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 19.96 grams of MDMA and 7.5 grams of THC, Shatter, crystal methamphetamine and Oxycodone mixtures
The total institutional value of this seizure is estimated at $48,000, officials said.
The police have been notified and the institution is investigating.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.
