Chandigarh: Over 8,000 contractual employees of the state-owned Punjab Roadways and PRTC on Monday stared their
indefinite strike, demanding regularisation of their jobs.
Private buses, however, continued to ply in the state but due to strike many passengers faced a horrific time as they did not get buses.
Over 2,000 buses of the state-owned Punjab Roadways and Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) remained off the roads due to the strike, said Punjab Roadways, Punbus/PRTC Contract Workers’ Union president Resham Singh Gill.
Gill said that about 200 buses operated by regular employees and they will not end their strike till their demands have not been met.
They also held district level protests outside bus stand across the state while raising slogans against the Punjab government for not acceding to their long-pending demands.
Protesting employees also threatened to lay siege to the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh at Siswan in Mohali on Tuesday.
