London: The controversy over the British film ‘The Lady of Heaven’ has deepened in the UK. The film is being accused of blasphemous and protesters say the film should be banned.
Among those opposing the film is Imam Qari Mohammad Asim, the head of the Mecca Masjid. When they expressed their opposition to the film, the government has taken action against them.
The government has sacked Imam from the post of advisor.
Qari Asim, imam of the Mecca Masjid in Leeds, was working as an independent adviser to the UK government on Islamophobia. He was removed from his post on Saturday following protests over the film. Imam was supporting the movement to ban a film on the daughter of Prophet Mohammad. After which the government took action against them.
The British government has removed Imam Qari Mohammad Asim from his post after he joined the campaign to oppose the British film ‘The Lady of Heaven’. Amidst the ongoing campaign for the British film, Asim had said in a statement that “The Lady of Heaven” is an “insulting film”. The film has hurt the people of the Muslim community a lot.
What’s the controversy about the film?
In fact, the British film The Lady of Heaven is based on the story of Fatimah, the daughter of prophet Mohammed. Which is not liked by Sunni Muslims and there are protests about this. Those who criticise the film are calling it blasphemous.
Those opposing the film believe that making a film on Prophet Muhammad and a member of his family is hurting religious sentiments. According to media reports, the film’s producer is Maulvi Yasar al-Habib, a Shia Muslim. They are accused of portraying prominent personalities of the Sunni community in a completely wrong way. That is why a large number of Sunni Muslims are opposing this film.
