Covid-19 pandemic shake off international travel but students go abroad in record numbers

New Delhi: The decline in the number of air travellers travelling internationally after the covid-19 pandemic may not have been fully compensated, but Indian students going abroad for studies have broken the record of 2019 before Corona in the first 11 months of this year. According to the official data of the Bureau of Immigration, 6.48 lakh Indian students have gone abroad till November 30 this year and this is the highest number of students going abroad for studies in the last five years.

According to the immigration records of Indians going abroad and the information officially provided by them, the number of Indians going abroad for the purpose of employment, business, re-entry or tourism is currently less than 2019, while the number of students going abroad for studies has increased significantly.

In 2019, 2.52 crore Indians travelled abroad for business, employment, education, tourism and other purposes. Out of this, 89.5 lakh Indians had travelled abroad for re-entry or accommodation purposes, while 63.68 lakh Indians went abroad for tourism purposes.

As many as 42.11 lakh Indians had travelled abroad on visitor visas. As many as 1.83 crore Indians have travelled abroad till November 30 this year.

Official data shows that a large number of Indians have travelled to countries in West Asia for employment purposes and most of them have gone to the United Arab Emirates for employment. While this figure is lower than in 2019, Indians are looking forward to the US government for the purpose of studies and the number of Indians traveling to Canada. This figures has been steadily increasing and this year the number has crossed the figure of 2019.

In 2019, 6.17 lakh Indians went to Canada, while this year till November, 6.60 lakh Indians have gone to Canada.

Similarly, in 2019, 7.45 lakh Indians joined the US. K. In 2022, the figure has crossed 7.45 lakh.
