New Delhi: A parliamentary panel has recommended to the Union Health Ministry to conduct an audit of COVID-19, especially during the second wave, “deaths due to oxygen shortage”.
The committee said that the audit should be processed in coordination with the states so that strong documents can be prepared about the deaths during Covid.
The committee said it was “disturbed” by the ministry’s “unfortunate denial” of Covid-19 deaths due to oxygen shortage.
Seeking greater transparency and accountability from government agencies, the committee said, “The ministry should closely examine covid deaths due to shortage of oxygen and ensure adequate compensation to the affected families.”
The committee claimed in the report that many more lives could have been saved during the second wave of COVID-19 had the containment-related strategies been implemented in time. The committee said that the government has completely failed to assess the magnitude of the situation.
