Ottawa: After meeting 50 defence leaders this week, Defence Minister Anita Anand said she could not provide any information yet on whether Canada was ready to send some of its battle tanks to Ukraine if Germany gives the green signal to the expert.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been demanding these tanks in turn. But after meetings at Ramstein Air Base this week, members of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group failed to reach a decision on what to send to Ukraine. Canada has 82 German-made Leopard two tanks, but they need Germany’s permission before sending them to Ukraine and this permission has not yet been obtained.

During an interview, Anita Anand said that Canada is committed to sending as much military help to Ukraine as possible. But when asked whether Canada would send its battle tanks to Ukraine if Germany agreed. On this, Anand said that he has nothing to say about it yet.

Anand said the defence leaders will meet once again in Brussels next month.
