Ontario: Canada’s chief public health officer says covid-19 is still spreading on a large scale and more strains of influenza could emerge in the new year.

Dr. Theresa Tam said governments should be prepared to invest even to avoid future epidemics.

In an interview, Tam said Canadians should be vigilant and that Covid-19 and the flu will fight according to the precautions that people take during these holidays.

She said that vaccinations everyone should take vaccine, masks should also be worn in crowded indoor places, masks should be kept while taking care of a sick family member and if health is not fine, then stay at home.

“We can prevent the situation from worsening by taking the right decision,” he said. We also know what can be done to reduce the risk, that too at a time when hospitals are already overburdened.” Tam said adding that it is very important to remember that the antiviral drug Paxlovide is also available for people who fall sick often. This reduces the risk of people getting admitted to the hospital if they fall ill.

She stressed that many children and the elderly are already hospitalized due to the H3N2 strain of influenza and there is a possibility that this number will come down suddenly. In the meantime, we need to be prepared to deal with other epidemics,” Tam said.
