Guwahati: The situation in Assam remained grim today due to floods. About 25 lakh people in the state are still reeling under floods though the water level of the rivers is receding in some areas.
State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited Silchar in Cachar district, the worst affected by the flood, and took stock of the damage caused by floods in Barak Valley city.
According to the information provided by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 25 lakh people are still facing problems in 27 flood-affected districts of the state, including 79 revenue circles and 2894 villages.
About 2.33 lakh people have taken shelter in 637 relief camps in the northeastern state, which has been reeling under floods and landslides for the past two weeks. Relief material is being distributed to the people through 259 distribution centres at various places in the state.
According to information, 67,237 people have been evacuated so far by various agencies to safer places.
