Houston: A former Indian-origin US police officer accused of killing a woman by firing recklessly in 2019 has been acquitted by a Texas court.
The former officer was accused of shooting at the woman’s dog, which hit the woman. Ravinder Singh was facing trial on charges of shooting dead Maggie Brooks (30).
The Tarrant Criminal District Attorney’s Office issued a statement after the court’s decision saying that whenever a civilian dies as a result of the use of force, they take the matter to a larger jury.
“A jury heard the facts about Brooks’ death in 2019,” the district attorney’s office said. They evaluated the witnesses and evidence and determined that Ravinder Singh was not guilty. By doing so, the jury fulfilled its duty in the criminal justice system, as we did. ’
