Former US cop gets 21 years imprisonment for violating George Floyd’s civil rights

Washington: The US federal judge sentenced former Minneapolis police officer Derek Shavin to 21 years in prison for violating the civil rights of Shiahpham George Floyd, adding that what he did was absolutely wrong and disgusting.

US District Judge Paul Magnson strongly condemned Shavin for knee-jerking Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020.

Floyd had died of neck compression. This was followed by large scale demonstrations across the world against police brutality and racism.
