New York: Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. is laying off 12,000 employees. Its chief executive said this in a staff memo shared with news agency Reuters. This cut is going to create another stir in the field of technology. Rival Microsoft Corp has already said it will lay off 10,000 employees.

The job cuts will affect all the teams of the company, including recruiting and corporate operations as well as engineering and product related teams.

Google has said that this layoff is happening worldwide and it will immediately affect US employees.

The news comes at a time of economic uncertainty as well as technological promise when Google and Microsoft are investing in new areas of software. This is known as Generative Artificial Intelligence.

“I am confident of the strength of our mission, the value of our products and services, and the huge opportunity that lies ahead thanks to our initial investment in AI,” Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said in a note.
