Govt forms task force to closely monitor monkeypox virus situation in country

New Delhi: The Centre has constituted a task force to monitor monkeypox cases and take a decision regarding steps to be taken to prevent infection. According to official sources, the task force will guide the government on the expansion of the testing centre to detect the infection in the country and keep an eye on the ongoing trend of virus for the prevention of the disease.

A 22-year-old man, who recently returned to Kerala from the United Arab Emirates, allegedly died of monkeypox on Saturday. India has so far reported four cases of the infection.

Niti Aayog member Dr. V K Paul will head the task force. The WHO recently declared Monkeypox a global public health emergency.

Globally, more than 16,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported in 75 countries.
