Chandigarh: For former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, the beginning of the year 2023 may be difficult. The Punjab Vigilance is likely to summon him for questioning soon on charges of adjusting the expenses of Rs 1.47 crore of the Dastan-e-Shahadat ceremony held in Chamkaur Sahib on November 19, 2021, to his son’s wedding.

Vigilance has both documents related to the case and the complainant. According to sources, the vigilance team may summon Channi for questioning even before Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra enters Punjab.

Former CM Charanjit Singh Channi is accused of adjusting Rs 60 lakh on food and other preparation expenses on his son’s wedding on October 10, 2021, out of Rs 1.47 crore of Dastan-E-Shahadat ceremony. Sensing the seriousness of the case, Channi himself has expressed fear of his arrest. He has said that his bank account and property details are being investigated. He has said that he has been defamed as part of a conspiracy to avenge the allegations. Channi has said that till date he has not eaten meat or drank alcohol, let alone doing such work.

Disgruntled over the case, Channi has said that there is no interrogation of the leaders who have led Punjab for decades. But the present Punjab government is missing 3 months of my CM’s tenure.

There are allegations that the expenditure of Rs 1.47 crore in the Dastan-e-Shahadat ceremony held on 19 November 2021 in Chamkaur Sahib, was adjusted to the wedding of the son of former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi on 10 October 2021.

This complaint has been sent to the Chief Director of Punjab Vigilance by Rajwinder Singh, a resident of Village Bhagu in Bathinda. All the documents have also been attached, which claim to prove the scam.
