New Delhi: Amid ongoing Hijab row, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra extended her support to protesting Muslim girls in Karnataka.
“Whether it is a bikini, a ghoonghat, a pair of jeans or a hijab, it is a woman’s right to decide what she wants to wear,” she said adding that this right is GUARANTEED by the Indian constitution. Stop harassing women. #ladkihoonladsaktihoon.
Thid controversy erupted in Karnataka on January 1 this year when Muslim schoolgirls at Udupi Women’s Pre-University college attended classes wearing hijab. Following this, many Muslim girls have attended schools at different places across the state.
Later, Hindu students also wore saffron shawls in the classroom as a sign of protest.
Meanwhile, groups of agitators threw stones at each other on Tuesday.
