IAF fighter jets scrambled after bomb threat in Iranian plane passing through Indian airspace

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) was put on alert following information about a bomb in an Iranian passenger plane passing through the Indian airspace.

The Iranian passenger flight is flying from Tahan to China. It is being told that the crew of the plane had sought permission to land at the Delhi airport but the permission was denied.

The Indian Air Force deployed two fighter jets behind the flight from Punjab and Jodhpur airbases.

It was later allowed to move towards China as no bomb was found in the plane.

According to officials, plane was going from Tehran in Iran to Guangzhou in China. After the bomb was reported, Mahan Air contacted the Delhi Airport Air Traffic Control for landing in Delhi. According to sources, the Delhi ATC suggested that the aircraft go to Jaipur but the pilot of the aircraft refused and the plane left the Indian airspace.

As soon as the bomb news was reported, the Indian security agencies and the Air Force became alert and the flight is being monitored. An alert was shared with the aircraft by the ATC when the aircraft entered the Indian airspace.

Sources said that su-30MKI fighter jets of the Indian Air Force from Punjab and Jodhpur airbases chased the aircraft to stop it.
