ICC Women’s Asia Cup 2018: India beat Sri Lanka by 41 runs

Sylhet (Bangladesh): The Indian women’s cricket team made a winning start to the Women’s Asia Cup T20 with a 41-run win over Sri Lanka thanks to Jemimah Rodrigues’ brilliant half-century (76 runs) here. Batting first, the Indian women’s team scored 150 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs, in response to which Sri Lanka’s team was reduced to 109 runs.

Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 76 runs to the total score of the Indian team. During her innings, Jemima hit 11 fours and a six. This is the best innings of his international career. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 33, Hemalatha scored 13 and Shafali Verma scored 10 runs. For Sri Lanka, bowlerS O Ranasinghe took three wickets while Chamari Atapattu and S. Rajasinghe took three wickets. Kumari got one wicket each. Chasing the target for victory, the Sri Lankan women’s cricket team was bowled out for just 109 runs in 18.2 overs.

Only three batsmen – Hasini Perera (30 runs), Harshita Madawi (26 runs) and Oshadi Ranasinghe (11 runs ) – could reach the double figures. Dayalan Hemalatha took three wickets while Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar took two wickets each. Radha Yadav gets a wicket. Jemimah Rodrigues was named ‘Player of the Match’ for her outstanding performance.
