Ottawa: The Canada has witnessed a significant rise in employment in August which was caught up to pre-pandemic levels, according to the latest Labour force survey.
The employment rose to 90, 000 and this rise has brought Canada’s employment upto 156, 000 employees short of February 2020 levels.
Statistics Canada’s data showed that from August 15 to 21most regions in Canada had rolled back public health measures to near-final stages while border had also been opened for full vaccinated tourists from US, expending tourism industry for the first time since March 2020.
The data shows that employment mainly increases in services producing industries, mostly in accommodation and food services while information, culture and recreation industry also witnessed a significant rise. Besides, construction workers also increased for the first time since the pandemic.
The Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia have witnessed a rise in employment and all other provinces had little or no change.
Meanwhile, unemployment was at its lowest rate since March last year when the pandemic hit at 7.1 per cent.
