India tops in cervical cancer cases, dramatically rising in women over 30

Chandigarh: There is a worrying thing about the health of women in India. In fact, a recent Lancet study has revealed that 23 percent of women in India die due to cervical cancer. Not only this, India is the only country in Asia where cervical cancer is the highest among women.

The Lancet Study Report reveals that cervical cancer has killed 40 percent of women worldwide. But what is even more frightening is that India is at the top of the list of countries published by Lancet. After this, China is second.

The cervical cancer is the cause of death of 23 percent of women in India, while 17 percent in China.

At the same time, about 6,04,127 new cases of cervical cancer were reported on the global label in the year 2020. Over 3.41 lakh women died of this disease.

58% of cases across Asia

According to the Global Cancer Observatory (GLOBOCAN) 2020, more than 58% of cervical cancer cases on the global label are in Asia alone. According to the World Health Organization, it is very important for women to be screened from time to time if cervical cancer is to be avoided.

What is cervical cancer?

Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the cells of the uterus. It is usually associated with the lower part of the uterus which is connected to the vagina.

It is usually caused by human papillomavirus. In this disease, HPV infection can be avoided by getting periodic screening tests done.
