Ontario: The health minister has given the province’s nursing colleges the green signal to make changes to the rules. After these changes, internationally trained nurses will soon be able to start practicing here.
Last month, Health Minister Sylvia Jones asked the College of Nurses of Ontario to prepare a plan to register internationally trained professionals as soon as possible.
This decision has been made due to the difficulty of temporarily closing many emergency departments of the province due to a shortage of staff.
Under this proposal for colleges, internationally trained nurses are being asked to be allowed to register temporarily and during this time these nurses will go through the process of complete registration, which will include completion of education and taking examinations.
It has also been proposed that 5300 nurses living and not practicing in Ontario, if they want, should also be included in the workforce.
According to the existing rules, the nurse has to be practicing in the last thirteen years to be part of the workforce again. But this rule will also be removed.
